Formulation of regional socio-economic scenarios for an integrated prediction of land & sea responses to global change in the Mediterranean Basin

LaSer-Med project aims at predicting the impacts of climate change on terrestrial and marine ecosystems of the Mediterranean Basin, and on the services they provide in terms of agricultural production, terrestrial and marine carbon sequestration, and fisheries. The project is organized in multiple work packages, one of them is the elaboration of consistent socio-economic regional scenarios aiming at reaching sufficient food for the population of the Mediterranean basin in the context of climate change and population increase. Each generated scenario will induce a specific land use change, from the current land use structure, as well as particular agricultural practices with effects on carbon sequestration. 

This research will be carried out in about 18 months through collaborative research between the Groupement de Recherche en Economie Quantitative d’Aix-Marseille (GREQAM) and the Eco-Development unit of INRA-Avignon (EDODEV-INRA) with participation of Leonith Hinojosa (Aix-Marseille University, Pytheas Institute, in a Convention d’Accueil with ECODEV-INRA), Dominique Ami (GREQAM) and Claude Napoléone (ECODEV-INRA).
